celebrities who love cryptocurrency

Valentine’s Day approaches and love of all kinds is in the air, so we’re doing a mini roundup on celebrities who love–or loved–cryptocurrency. While we’re at it, we’ll update you on their romantic loves as well. Read on to discover who’s crushing on cryptocurrency and who simply got crushed….

Ashton Kutcher

Cryptocurrency relationship status: A known crypto-enthusiast, Ashton Kutcher has played the cryptocurrency field for a while. At the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in 2013, he said: “I think bitcoins are obviously becoming more and more relevant.”

But Kutcher’s most public crypto relationship has been with Ripple’s XRP. In 2018, he donated $4 million XRP to the Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund on behalf of the Ripple Foundation, but, Ripple and the Foundation have  hit rocky times since. As of December 2020, Ripple is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission. So far, Kutcher has been mum on his status with XRP. However, he’s been making moves with other cryptocurrencies, like backing Lolli, the Bitcoin reward app. Where Kutcher’s crypto affections ultimately lie still remains to be seen….

Romantic relationship status: Kutcher’s romantic relationship is far steadier than his crypto relationships. He’s been with Mila Kunis since 2012 and married since 2015.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Cryptocurrency relationship status: In August 2017, Gwyneth Paltrow started getting to know cryptocurrency by becoming an advisor to Abra, a Bitcoin global money transfer app. She took the relationship more public in November 2018 by publishing a Bitcoin guide on her lifestyle website GOOP, featuring Abra’s CEO Bill Barhydt. But these days, she’s keeping her crypto relationship to herself.

Romantic relationship status: Paltrow started dating Brad Falchuk in 2014, soon after splitting from her previous husband Chris Martin, whom she says is friendly with Falchuk. Paltrow and Falchuk married in 2018.

Maisie Williams

Cryptocurrency relationship status: Maisie Williams, known for her role as Arya Stark in Game of Thrones, is newly into cryptocurrency. In November 2020, she asked Twitter if she should “go long on Bitcoin.” The responses were all over the place and filled with Game of Thrones word play. The winning answer by a slim margin was basically: Yes, buy some Bitcoin and expect the value to go up. So, Williams took her friends’ advice and purchased some.

Romantic relationship status: Williams has dated multi-hyphenate Reuben Selby since 2019, and her Instagram page indicates they’re quarantining together. They’re copacetic enough to regularly match outfits, so like Williams and Bitcoin, they may be in it for the long haul.

50 Cent

Cryptocurrency relationship status: 50 Cent didn’t realize a good thing when he had it. In 2014, he accepted Bitcoin as payment for his album “Animal Ambition.” Years later, he indicated he received 700 Bitcoin for the album, forgot about them, remembered them later, and then realized he was a Bitcoin millionaire.

But the actual story is more of a love ‘em and leave ‘em variety. In 2018, 50 Cent admitted in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing that any Bitcoin sales were “contemporaneously” converted into dollars. At the time, Bitcoin was at $660, so 700 Bitcoin equaled $460,000. If he still had those 700 bitcoin today, they’d be worth $44,000 each (as of writing this) for a total of $30 million. Is this the one that got away? Absolutely.

Romantic relationship status: So far, 50 Cent’s relationship with fitness trainer Jamira “Cuban Link” Haines has had more staying power than his dalliance with Bitcoin. They’re tightlipped about their relationship but have been together since at least August 2019 when they first hit the red carpet together. These days, they work on collaborative collages, so it sounds like 50 Cent is more invested in this relationship than he was with cryptocurrency.
